C855 YVM - Robin Hood Exmo
The 1.6 engine we acquired was from a 400 series Rover which was equipped with a lot of additional ancillaries including power steering and air conditioning. We obviously didn't want or need these - indeed, they wouldn't fit anyway. So you need to remove the power steering and air conditioning pumps and the associated brackets that go with them. The alternator is fine but it will not mount in the same location as it did in a 400 series Rover - it will be too high up and will foul the body of an Exmo (where it is rolled over at the top for strength). Don't panic, however, as all you need to do is replace it with the bracket and belt from a Rover Metro (100 series) - this is nice and easy as none of the 100-series ever had power steering or air conditioning. The brings the alternator down and in towards the block slightly, and keeps it nicely away from the body.
