Tie Bars
In the following picture you can see the inner bracket for the tiebar mount. This is a piece of right-angled 3mm steel plate with reinforcing webs at each end. This sits snug up against the inside of the bodywork and bolts through both the floor panels and the side panel. The gap between the outer side panel and the bracket itself is padded out with metal plate as needed. It so happened that the left-hand side of our car didn't require any gap to be filled, although the right-hand side bracket did not fit against the side panel quite so snugly, and a spacer plate was made up of about 4mm in thickness. This sat between the inner bracket and the inside of the side panel.

With the tie bars in place and the engine bay floor cut, you can actually go ahead and try lifting the engine in if you want - purely to make sure everything clears.
