The Build
C855 YVM - Robin Hood Exmo

Original engineThe original engine was a 2100cc Ford OHC (a.k.a. Pinto) that came out of an old Ford Pop drag car that Chris used to own. We never really had any exact specs on it but it had a mild cam in it and made around 130bhp running on 45 Dellorto carbs.
Original 4-speed gearox...and the original gearbox, which was a Ford 4-speed, here being delicately painted in a lovely shade of blue by yours truly.
Radiator and fan trial fittedThe suggested location for the radiator is behind the front chassis cross member, directly in front of the engine. Air is pulled in from the back via the original engine-mounted viscous fan. I didn't like the idea of this; I couldn't see it doing that much cooling when it was blocked by the front of the chassis. So we made up some brackets and mounted the radiator in the nosecone with an electric fan.
Sticking the engine inFitting the engine is very simple with this car as it's all so basic and straightforward. Two engine mounts and one gearbox mount is all that's needed. You just slot it in like this!
Pedal box reinforcingThe reason for this picture may not be apparent, but of interest to other Robin Hood builders. I wasn't entirely satisfied with the strength of the original pedal box mounting and so welded a support bar onto the front of the pedal box. This bar extends backwards to the bulkhead, through which is bolts up and provides a little more strength to the whole caboodle.
InteriorThe interior, shortly after completion. The wheel was eventually swapped for a bigger one. Fusebox under the dash will be hidden!
Exmo from the rearAnother picture of the car just after completion. The wheels are standard Sierra steel items - they were changed at a later date for something sexier!
Exmo from the side...and another picture from the side. Only one wiper blade at the moment. The exhaust is also the standard Robin Hood silencer... this was ditched for an aftermarket one later.
